There were numerous challenges when it came to modifying this unfinished space. They included:
1) Maximizing the available space, and making maximum use of the limited natural light
2) Improving comfort
3) Creating a spa-like bathroom
4) Relocating extensive amounts of plumbing—including an inlet from a well, water softener, and sulfur filter– and installing a pump to connect to the septic system.
Of course, no challenge is too great for our experts. Today’s Renovators got to work to turn this gloomy space into the basement of their clients’ dreams.
We began by removing walls, as well as building additional walls to open up the space, while closing in two bedrooms and a bathroom. In order to take advantage of the natural light, we made sure to situate the bedrooms and bathroom to include existing window openings. We also replaced the old single-paned windows with high efficiency sliders.
We tied the bedrooms and bathroom into the heating system by creating carefully-placed vents and new windows, which dramatically improved comfort level. We also seamlessly relocated the plumbing to the furnace room far away on the other side of the basement by running pipes through walls and bulkhead.
The result? A basement that is now as beautiful as it is functional. Not only did this renovation increase the number of bedrooms to five and bathrooms to three and a half, it certainly also added thousands in re-sale value.
